When I was first asked to lead the Oahu Adventure trips for Created for Adventure, I was excited about the prospect of spending time in a Biblically-focused community with young people coming from a variety of locations across the United States. I was also extremely interested in bringing the camp paradigm to what felt like an exotic place many kids had never been to. And, of course, I couldn’t pass up the endless opportunities for adventure in an incredibly gorgeous piece of Creation!
Getting to know the students and seeing how well they bonded throughout just a few days was a highlight of each day. There was so much joy and laughter, deep conversations, and growth. One of my favorite times of day was settling down together in the evening after hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, waterfall swimming, surfing, and/or beach hanging to debrief on the day’s events. We watched gorgeous sunsets and stars show out across the night sky as we talked through scripture, how the day or the people around us had impacted us, and how to apply insight gained to our lives back home. I was blown away by the depth of these young people’s responses and at God’s majesty as He worked through their hearts. Hearing their recognition of His presence and power moving through each day was extraordinarily touching as well as encouraging to see in the future generation of Christ followers.
There were too many breathtaking sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, and cherished moments to count. I left Oahu with a happy and full heart!
For those looking to change hearts and have their hearts changed, you don’t want to miss out on leading one of these unique adventures! It was truly an experience of a lifetime, one with lasting kingdom significance that will continue to stay with me and one I would lead again in a heartbeat!
