5 Things to Look for in an Adventure Camera
It may take a little research on your part to find the camera you really want to commit to before your teen’s adventure trip begins. We know cost matters, so we’ve put together a list of features to look for when making a purchase for an adventure camera for your child.
1. Shockproof
With any adventure, there are chances of dropping things! Think about the numerous times a hydro flask is dropped; it’s a sound heard around the world. We’re talking about a camera, though. We often think of cameras, especially nice ones, as delicate and fragile.
When it comes to hiking the Rockies, you want a robust camera. This is one of the reasons the Go-Pro is praised because of its ability to handle the most rugged of terrains. Whether you slip and fall on some rocks or trip over a tree root, you want a camera that is able to withstand the fall.
Not to mention, if you’re a child or teenager, the risk and chances of dropping something increases. Make sure to purchase a camera that is going to be able to be in one piece when your child returns from their trip.
2. Waterproof
You can’t tell us that anyone would want to go to Hawaii and NOT get a picture underwater of that beautiful ocean. Imagine the amazing sea creatures you could capture on film with a waterproof camera! It would be a memory kept in a photograph permanently that could be cherished forever.
Beyond the intentional purposes of submerging your camera underwater, accidents happen all the time. You never know when you may get caught in a rainstorm or accidentally drop your camera over a body of water.
For security sake and for your future adventure’s sake, find yourself a good quality waterproof camera.
3. Compact
With any travel, you don't want more weight to carry than what is necessary. Having a gaudy camera to haul around is not ideal. Especially when the epitome of adventure is feeling free and unweighted.
Finding a camera that is compact, or at least small enough to put in a pocket, or small case, will make your trip a lot more comfortable.
4. Hands Free
Whether you’re biking, swimming, or even hiking, it’s nice to, at times, be able to capture what you’re seeing while not missing what you’re seeing. What we mean is that so many times when taking pictures, we miss the real moment. With a hands-free feature, you don’t have to worry about that.
Not only that, you need your hands for other things other than holding a camera when you’re biking and swimming. This can be a big bonus in an adventure camera.
5. Equipped for Action Photography and Video
Most importantly, you want a camera prepared for action. We’ve all had a camera at one point that produced blurred images when we tried to take pictures at some event where people were running around.
The last thing you want is blurred memories from your adventure trip. Make sure that when you are searching for a camera, you search for an “action camera.”
Go-Pro is one of many action cameras to choose from, and an action camera will provide you with crisp, clean photos of your trip, no matter how much movement you’re trying to capture.
