All About Teen Adventure Trips to the Tetons

Wednesday, November 02, 2022

Here at Created for Adventure, we specialize in creating meaningful, fun, and exciting  Adventure trips for teenagers all over the United States. Two of the adventure trips that we offer for teenagers include the Grand Tetons. Both of these adventures will include morning daily devotional time, backcountry cooking together, group games, evening small groups, and more!

On our trips, teens will experience an adventure of a lifetime and return home with a better understanding of God's love for them and a deeper appreciation for creation.

Rockies-Teton-Yellowstone Expedition (9th-12th Graders)

The first adventure trip that we offer is the Rockies-Teton-Yellowstone Expedition. The dates for this adventure will be June 17-30, 2023. This expedition is a 14-day co-ed expedition, and our group will go on epic hikes in the beautiful Rockies and Teton National Parks. We will whitewater raft the Snake River and attend a rodeo in Jackson Hole.

Your teen and their new friends will explore Yellowstone's natural wonders and then finish your action-packed adventure with a horseback ride in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Our first few days will be spent just outside the Rocky Mountain National Park.

You’ll be tent camping in Estes Park, Colorado, where you'll get to know each other more, learn technical camp & cooking skills, and explore the Rocky Mountain National park!

Our campers couldn’t say enough great things about their time on our expedition!

"I learned a lot of new things like how to cook, set up a tent, and just get closer to God. I think I really did grow in my faith, and I made so many new friends. I thought all of the activities were fun, but I really liked swimming, rafting, and biking."

"We sent our oldest daughter on the Rockies, Yellowstone, and Teton adventure camp this summer, and she had an incredible time. She made new friends and made so many incredible memories that will last her a lifetime. Just knowing that she was so happy and having such a great time made our decision to send her out west for the first time a fantastic one."

Teton Trailblazer (Rising 8th-9th Graders)

The second adventure trip that we offer is the Teton Trailblazer. The dates for this adventure will be June 26-July 2, 2023. This 7-day adventure is a great first step in adventure travel.  This adventure is packed full of exciting opportunities to explore the Grand Teton National park on some incredible hikes to mountains, lakes, and waterfalls.

You’ll go horseback riding and enjoy breathtaking views of the Tetons and then a whitewater raft down the Snake River. You’ll end your amazing adventure together at a rodeo in Jackson Hole! Our group will be tent camping at a group campsite in the Grand Teton National Park. You’ll learn technical skills, including backcountry cooking, orienteering, wildlife safety, and more.

Our group will be camping at a group site in the Grand Teton National park.  We will use this as our base camp to go on day hikes and horseback rides, and we will be whitewater rafting along the Snake River.

"We sent our son on the Grand Teton-Yellowstone trip this summer. He had an amazing time! He is usually not one to give details, so we joked about how little he would tell us when we picked him up….he talked for over an hour! While I can’t say exactly what happened, he came back changed. He said he actually enjoyed being without his phone!

The communication from the time we checked into this trip last October until the day they left was very thorough. I was always able to get in touch with someone when I had questions, which I appreciate. We are definitely planning on sending our younger son on a trip at some point! Created for Adventure was exactly what we were looking for. A safe, Christ-centered opportunity for our son to have an adventure of a lifetime."

Why Your Teen Should Go on a Tetons Adventure

Now more than ever, teens need to get outside to experience adventure and take a break from the daily distractions of technology and social media. Of course, there are so many national Parks in the U.S. that are absolutely worth visiting, but the Grand Tetons are definitely a must-see. The Rocky Mountains are one of the nation’s highest national parks.

With elevations from 7,860 feet to 14,259 feet, this is a must-see for any nature lover and a must-see for any traveler! These high elevations make Rocky Mountain National Park one of the most visited parks in the United States! Yellowstone is on top of a dormant volcano and is home to more geysers and hot springs than any other place on earth.

All of these iconic mountains your teen will experience show God’s wondrous creations of mountains, lakes, rivers, and also the beautiful wildlife. These three parks are for sure a bucket list place for anyone!

The History of the Parks

history of the grand tetons

The beautiful Grand Tetons lie in the western part of Wyoming. President Calvin Coolidge signed the act creating Grand Teton National Park, founding it on February 26, 1929, through the National Parks Service.

In 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the 210,000-acre Jackson Hole National Monument. In 1950, President Harry S. Truman and Congress merged the monument, the national park, and a 35,000-acre donation from John D. Rockefeller to create the 310,000-acre Grand Teton National Park Ever since then, people from all around the world come to visit every year.

In fact, it is estimated that over 3 million people visit every year. Eight peaks towering above 12,000 feet exist within the park. The highest peak, the Grand Teton, rises 13,770 feet above sea level. and the entire park spreads out approximately 310,000 acres. The Grand Tetons are actually one of the youngest mountain ranges in North America.

They have been uplifting significantly less than other mountain ranges making them much younger than the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian mountains! The Rocky Mountains are another iconic mountain range your teen can encounter on one of our adventures. On January 26, 1915, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Rocky Mountain National Park Act, and since then, it is estimated that 4.67 million people visit every year. In 2009, almost 250,000 acres of Rocky Mountain were designated as wilderness by Congress to protect our parks.

Founded March 1, 1872, Yellowstone National Park is huge and spreads over 2,221,766 acres! It is estimated that half the world's hydrothermal features are found at Yellowstone!

The Beautiful Wildlife

One of the greatest things about the Grand Teton National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Yellowstone National Park is the wildlife. One of our past campers' favorite things about their adventures was seeing the wildlife. Some of the wildlife that your teen will safely encounter include grizzly and black bears, bison, moose, elk, pronghorn, and more!

There’s a good chance that we will get to encounter these interestingly beautiful animals at one of the many wildlife viewing areas scattered about the parks. It’s common to see small bands of pronghorn antelope, the fastest land animal in North America. You’ll get to see Elk leave the shade of Timbered Island to eat the grasses growing among the surrounding sagebrush.

Bison and pronghorn can be seen grazing in spring, summer, and fall. Your teen will also get to watch for coyotes, Northern harriers, American kestrels hunting mice, Uinta ground squirrels, and grasshoppers.

The Weather

Both of the adventure trips that we offer will be offered in the summertime, and the weather this time of year will be great for outdoor activities! The average temperature in July around the Grand Teton National Park is 77 Degrees Fahrenheit. And the average temperature around the Rocky Mountain area this time of year is 69 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Sometimes it can get a little warmer so expect summer temperatures to rise around 75-80 degrees with low humidity; evenings will be much cooler with lows in the 30s and 40s, and this weather will be perfect for spending time outdoors; it's not too hot, and it's not too cold. But even if the weather is a little warmer, colder, or rainier than we might expect, we will be prepared for whatever comes our way.

What Your Teen Will Do at Adventure Camp in the Tetons and Yellowstone

what your teen will do at adventure camp

On both of our adventure trips, your teen will have amazing opportunities to do super fun and exciting activities.

On our Rockies-Teton-Yellowstone Expedition, your teen will be able to horseback ride in the Rocky Mountain National Park, whitewater rafting the Snake River in Grand Teton National, visit a rodeo in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, hike and explore the Yellowstone area, and camp in the Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Teton National Park!

We will be tent camping in Estes Park, Colorado, and the Grand Teton National Park in our group campsites. In our Teton Trailblazer trip, your teen will hike in the Grand Teton National Park, horseback ride, visit a rodeo in Jackson Hole, and whitewater Raft the Snake River!

The beautiful Snake River, which starts in Yellowstone, stretches for over 1,050 miles, a small part of which is located in Grand Teton National Park.

It's an amazingly beautiful river to safely whitewater raft! Jackson is a town in Wyoming’s Jackson Hole valley that we’ll be visiting as well for a rodeo! This small and charming town is a must-see for anyone, and you can see the beautiful mountains and enjoy the fresh mountain air while on an adventure!
