Essential Teen Outdoor Survival Skills
1. Know Your Surroundings
Before setting out on any adventure, take the time to familiarize yourself with the surroundings. Learn about the geography, climate, and potential hazards of the area you'll be exploring. At Created for Adventure, our trips are meticulously planned to ensure a balance between challenge and safety. However, being informed about your environment empowers you to make wise decisions and respond effectively to unexpected situations.
2. Mastering Navigation Skills
Navigating the great outdoors requires a solid understanding of basic navigation skills. Learn how to read a map and use a compass to find your way. At Created for Adventure, we incorporate map-reading and navigation exercises into our programs, allowing teens to develop practical skills that will serve them well in various outdoor settings. These skills not only boost confidence but also foster a sense of accomplishment and independence.
3. Building a Fire
Fire has been a symbol of warmth, light, and protection throughout history. In the wilderness, knowing how to start a fire is not only practical for cooking and staying warm.
4. Water Sourcing And Purification
In the great outdoors, access to clean water is essential for survival. Learn how to identify potential water sources and purify water using various methods.
5. First Aid And Staying Healthy
Being prepared for injuries or illnesses is a responsible part of any outdoor adventure. If you are out on your own adventure, pack a well-equipped first aid kit if you are out on your own adventure and familiarize yourself with basic first aid techniques. This skill not only ensures your well-being but also allows you to be a source of help for others. On a Created for Adventure camp, your staff will be trained in Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder and will have a full medical kit on-hand.
