Created for Adventure Fosters Confidence in Young Women

Many young women might think they’re incapable of completing an outdoor adventure like the trips we offer, but we know that is not the case! Whether you’re joining us for an outdoor adventure in Alaska, the Rockies, or even Hawaii, it is guaranteed that you’ll challenge yourself,  make friends along the way, enjoy time away from your everyday life, and boost your confidence and faith in yourself. 

One of our camper’s parents from Georgia wrote to us and shared:

How Adventure Camps Help Inspire Confidence and Womanhood

1. Mental Health

Spending time outdoors is a great way to relax, de-stress, and disconnect from social media, and now more than ever, improving your mental health is important for all of us. Many young women struggle with anxiety and confidence issues.

Being outside and surrounding yourself with nature and looking away from stress, work, social media, and news is a great way to connect with yourself and appreciate mother nature and God’s beautiful creations around the world.

According to the American Psychological Association, “exposure to nature has been linked to a host of benefits, including improved attention, lower stress, better mood, reduced risk of psychiatric disorders and even upticks in empathy and cooperation.” 

A parent from North Carolina shared with us how impactful her daughter’s experience was in Hawaii last summer:

“We signed our daughter up for the Hawaii trip last summer. I knew she would enjoy exploring this beautiful place, but what I didn’t expect was her coming home closer to God and more confident in herself. She was so excited to share with me that she learned other teenagers also suffer from anxiety. 

It was such a relief for her to realize she wasn’t the only one. She said she now knows that she’s not alone and that she has friends she can turn to and that she wants to be there for these girls as new hardships arise. Our daughter said she wants to remember this peace and appreciation that she now has and never wants to lose it. This trip exceeded our expectations in every way possible!” -Aresa, parent from North Carolina

2. Teamwork

In a competitive society, teamwork is difficult for more people than one might think. Many times in the outdoors and on one of our adventures, it might be necessary to work with others in order to complete tasks, small or large. Part of being a team with us is communicating with each other every day and also working with each other to encourage and lift each other up. 

Especially in a new environment, an outdoor adventure is a great way to build leadership skills, adaptability, and confidence that can help you in the outside world! 

3. Disconnect from Social Media

With the world shutting down from the pandemic, more and more people started relying on social media for interactions and validation from their friends, family, and strangers in a not-so-healthy way. Social media and the pandemic caused many people’s mental health to suffer severely, and scientists around the world are working to understand the toll that the pandemic had on us. 

One scientist, Jeremy Tyler, PsyD, an assistant professor of clinical Psychiatry at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the Perelman School of Medicine, explains, “The isolation we’ve experienced over the past year really weighs on people; we’re all working to understand a new and different sense of connection.” 

Taking time to surround yourself with nature will help you better understand the importance of taking time for yourself and forgetting unrealistic standards of social media!

4. Physical Wellbeing

Exercising and any physical activity, no matter how challenging or easy it may be, is a great way to get moving and stay active. Physical activity goes hand in hand with mental health. The more active you are, the less likely you are to suffer from things like anxiety and depression. 

According to Health.gov, “Research suggests that increased physical activity, of any kind, can improve depression symptoms experienced by people across their lifespan. Engaging in regular physical activity has also been shown to reduce the risk of developing depression in children and adults.” 

Immersing yourself in the outdoors is a great way to stay active! 

5. Mother Nature

Being outside and surrounding yourself with nature and temporarily disconnecting from your world of stress, work, social media, and news is a great way to connect with yourself and appreciate mother nature and God’s beautiful creations around the world. 

Not only will you be able to appreciate the outdoors, but you’ll also be able to soak up some of Mother Nature’s benefits like Vitamin D, strengthening your immune system, lowering your blood pressure, and enjoying the fresh air!

6. Challenging Yourself

Being in the outdoors to explore, hike, camp, and more is a great way to challenge yourself, both physically and mentally

The challenges you’ll face during one of our adventures could be something as simple as leaving home for a short time period, or it could be completing a long hike, or it could even be starting a fire. No matter what challenges you’ll come across, we will equip you and help you along the way!
